Alaska Airlines – 787 Intl Economy

Experience & Review

Alaska Airlines recently introduced its new international service standards for flights on their newly acquired Boeing 787-9s, and we were able to catch a ride on one of the first flights from Seattle to Rome and we were really happy with what we experienced in Main Cabin!

Our Score:

(5/5)

Overview

As Alaska starts to integrate Hawaiian Airlines into the fold, our little Chester now has widebody aircraft.   Alaska Airlines has repainted the Boeing 787-9 fleet from Hawaiian into their new “global” livery, replacing Chester on the tail with the northern lights and a new service standard on the airplane.

This was one of the first flights to be operated, as we caught this on Day 4.   The 787s smell & look brand new, and we found the cabin very welcoming.   I was initially assigned row 45, but alas there’s NO window (boo!) and was able to move to the last row, which has only 2 seats.  Row 47 is also a “golden” seat because you have space to the left of you for small items and your feet, as well as 2 monstrous windows.

Main Cabin seats come with a multi-direction headrest, seatback TV, USB A & C power plugs, and 2 audio jacks (which is great if you and your seatmate want to watch a movie).   The collection of movies and enteratainment was just as vast as we see on the Alaska Airlines 737s, however there presently is no wifi yet.

Cabin service, handled by Hawaiian flight attendants, includes multiple full beverage services (international flights offer free beer & wine; cocktails are still at a small charge) and 2 full meal services.   I believe we had 3 options for dinner and 2 for breakfast, but I wasn’t super hungry and munched on whatever option was given to me – and it was quite good.   Mid flight the rear galley had a snack basket out with items we find in the domestic First Class snack basket, along with warm cookies.
